Mauri Ora
Enhancing Mauri Ora
The Maori of Aotearoa have a whakatauki - a saying:
“He aha te mea nui o te ao
He tangata, he tangata, he tangata”
“What is the most important thing in the world?
It is the people, it is the people, it is the people”
So, we facilitate the creation of the right group of like-minded people. They may be your friends or friends of friends, but everyone is into it. Laughter is the best medicine. We want to have fun. We may form lasting bonds with our companions as we share in the discovery of these beautiful islands and ourselves. There may be some emotional releases and having a supportive group around us is important.
Whenua | Place
Our journey begins by transporting ourselves to somewhere mind-blowingly beautiful - like the wilds of Fiordland - to decompress. We will decouple from the internet. We connect with Te Taiao (Nature) in all her majesty. Our minds will slow to more natural rhythms and we take time to enjoy the experience of feeling.
At our next location, by Lake Wanaka, we will hike and exercise in the presence of humbling mountains. This will help regain our perspectives. We may challenge our bodies to aid focus and encourage regeneration. We will be grateful for being alive.
Once in Te Tau Ihu (Top of the South Island) our real body work begins. This is time to acknowledge mauri and commit to ora. We take time to engage with whenua (land), maybe a walk through native forest or a swim in the bracing waters of the a local awa (river). The process of cleansing begins.
A final stay at the ultimate getaway of Westhaven Retreat allows integration of these powerful energies to assimilate. There is no pressure to do anything or be anywhere. Just BE.
And if your intuition drives a yearning to discover more deeply the place you are in, then we will gladly organise excursions to our favourite power spots to explore and connect.
Mauri Ora
With your private chefs, we design wholesome, nutritionally balanced and regenerative diets to recalibrate your body systems, blurring the traditional boundaries of food and medicine. Taste is key.
Local healing practitioners will provide a degustation of modalities. These are all optional. We typically start our days with a yoga practice and mindful meditation. A round robin with healers, including massage, zero balancing and acupuncture is designed around your preferences. You can even introduce more esoteric practices such as sound healing, personal clearing and hypnotherapy. We work around Ayurvedic timetables (the natural circadian rhythms and cycles of Life) for eating and body rhythms, leaving time in the evenings for laughter, stories, music and movement.
Ti hei! Mauri ora!
